Over its history, the Nike Air Force 1 has helped the Swoosh introduce and popularize innovation. From cushioning solutions to uppers, new developments in footwear have widely made their way onto Bruce Kilgore’s iconic design.
Recently, the Oregon-based company reimagined the “presidential” silhouette through the lens of the great outdoors. The result?: The Air Force 1 Wild, a rugged offering that marries basketball DNA with trail-inspired components. At quick glance, the sneaker is undoubtedly from Kilgore’s lineage, but closer inspection reveals traces of both Nike Hike and Nike ACG, two categories from the 1980s and ’90s that saw the Swoosh dive into footwear for the great outdoors. A mix of fabric and textile make up the Air Force 1 Wild’s upper, with sole units also updating Kilgore’s original design from 1982. “Wheat Gold” claims the bulk of real estate on the upcoming shoe, although “Rugged Orange” contrast appears via the tongue, heel, and other supporting accents. All together, the shoe further proves that the Air Force 1 is one of the brand’s most versatile canvases to date.
