The brainchild of three OG proponents of the 580 — namely, Naotake Magara, Yoshifumi “YOPPI” Egawa, and Hideyuki Kunii — mita‘s next collaborative effort with New Balance likens the aforementioned sneaker to the footwear brand’s military-exclusive running shoe.
Back in 2018, New Balance inked a $17.3 million dollar contract with none other than the US military, making the Boston-based institution the sole supplier of the armed forces’ athletic footwear. Central to the deal was the 950v2, a sneaker developed specifically for the military out of parts sourced entirely in America.
While the 950v2 is not and will likely never be available to the public, we can find some consolation in the mita sneakers x New Balance 580. The collaboration draws direct design cues from the aforementioned pair, echoing everything from its all-black colorway to the diamond-shaped graphics along its heel. It even makes a few improvements of its own, incorporating Vibram bottoms, GORE-TEX, TOE PROTECT, and FANTOM FIT.
Enjoy a detailed look at the mita x New Balance 580 right here. These are expected to hit mita locations tomorrow, Oct. 7th, before releasing online on Oct. 10th.
In unrelated news, the Nike SB Dunk Low Fog is returning on Oct. 20th.
