UPDATE December 14th, 2023: Detailed imagery of the Nike Book 1 “Sail” has surfaced with “Light Orewood Brown”, “Sesame” and “Baroque Brown” accents. The tonal colorway is expected to retail for $150 USD.

Devin Booker wore his widely-anticipated Nike Book 1 against the Golden State Warriors last night in the 2023-24 NBA season opener. The Phoenix Sun laced up the limited-to-500-pairs orange style, but could be wearing a newly-surfaced grey pair soon.

In just the last week, Nike Basketball’s latest design has emerged in two other grayscale ensembles, including the aptly-dubbed “Cool Grey” Book 1. The most recent offering sees less white contrast across its upper – which draws inspiration from other hoops classics from the Swoosh like the Air Force 1, Blazer Mid, and Air Jordan 1 – than other options. A textile construction is visible from mid-foot to heel, complementing the leather and fabric hits across the forefoot, along the tongue, and at the heel. A cream-colored finish lands on the inner-lining and perforated collar area, creating an “aged” effect in line with Booker’s affinity with restomods, which also informed Benjamin Nethongkome’s design.

One of several debut signature basketball shoes for the 2023-24 NBA season, the Book 1 has been widely-lauded for its off-court appeal. Cushlon 2.0 foam and top-loaded Zoom Air units at the rearfoot, however, guarantee the sneaker performs on-the-court as well as (or even better than) on the street. Tooling on the recently-seen style – which could be the first widespread release of Devin Booker’s shoe – keeps things simple in white and a semi-translucent, milky hue. The arrangement has landed on other Basketball and Sportswear offerings from the brand in recent memory.

Enjoy an early look at the pair ahead, and anticipate official nike.com launch details as Spring 2024 inches closer. The Nike Book 1 “Grey/Sail” is expected to retail for $150 USD.
