Meet The adidas Samoa, Another 1970s Classic From The Archives

adidas Originals have had a stellar year. And while the market continues to eat up the original Samba every time it’s restocked, the brand continues to unearth designs from its archives that deliver something similar, but refreshing. Case in point?: The adidas Samoa.

To the uninformed, the Samoa first launched in the 1970s as part of an “Islands Collection,” a multi-shoe lineup designed to evoke some of the most serene places on the globe. Odes to Jamaica, Tahiti, and Hawaii have mostly fallen into obscurity since then, but the adidas Samoa has enjoyed several moments in the spotlight over the years. As with other Originals offerings, the sneaker features a straightforward style. The simple design is made simpler when two-tone color schemes are applied – including white/black, black/white, red/white, and blue/white. As with other adidas icons, however, the silhouette is rooted in performance heritage, most notably the “T” toe that’s landed on the aforementioned Samba. A protective toe cap and taller midsole injects a distinct aesthetic into the Samoa, making its transition from training to life seamless.
