Above The Clouds Returns To The ASICS GT-2160 In 2024

Our first look reveals an earthy take on the retro runner.

Above The Clouds Returns To The ASICS GT-2160 In 2024

A persistent collaborative canvas last year, the ASICS GT-2160 isn’t slowing down any in 2024. Australian imprint & retailer Above the Clouds is reprising their relationship with ASICS for a third time and gracing the GT-2160 for the second time, following their collaboration at the end of 2023.

A sneak peek posted to their @abovethecloudsstore Instagram account is all we have at the moment, but it’s all that was needed to ignite a ton of anticipation. Much like that October drop, the pair here doesn’t shy away from the unabashed tech runner style, but this time gives it something of a lush facelift.

The foremost change to the model is the transparent overlay on the forefoot. It partially covers a shade of mauve that chromatically bridges the red Gel unit and insoles with a more widespread neutral palette. Deep brown line-work is constant throughout the sneakers, outlining the profile crosshatch and anchoring the toe cap. While not a full-throated exploration of metallic silver, wide mesh that stretches from the midline to the heel is one of a few areas where chrome sticks around.

As this is our very first look at this pair, release details are scant for the moment. Should the cadence of their last release repeat here, a raffle will likely open first through Above the Clouds, followed by a wider asics.com launch shortly thereafter.

Elsewhere in the runners world, the New Balance 9060 is heating up, with multiple colorways just unveiled including the New Balance 9060 “Modern Expressionism” releasing tomorrow.
