It remains to be seen which shoe will supplant the adidas Samba as the “it shoe” of the moment, but within the trending genre of low-top lifestyle models, Puma isn’t short on viable contenders. In a move that couldn’t come at a more perfect time, the German footwear brand is set to bring back the Speedcat in two original colorways in June 2024, introducing a new wave of consumers to the early 2000s sensation with simple yet heritage-rich makeup.
While most Speedcat ambassadors turn to the shoe for lifestyle wear, its tooling is oriented for high-performance racing. A thin, low-profile rubber sole allows drivers to feel every bit of the pedal, a shared characteristic across several Puma Motorsport silhouettes. For the uninformed, Puma is the official apparel supplier of several F1 teams, a noteworthy distinction that adds fuel to the Speedcat’s modern resurgence given the worldwide popularity of the sport.
Away from the track, the Speedcat has also made its way into tabloids and the world of celebrity-driven fashion. Emily Ratajkowski was recently seen wearing both OG colorways referenced here on two separate occasions, a consequential development with promising implications.
The delivery includes original black and red colorways, both of which dropped most recently in 2020 but to little acclaim. Given the shift in footwear sensibilities since then, however, this latest drop won’t fly under the radar. Enjoy official images below and mark your calendar for the release of both pairs at midnight, June 20th on puma.com for $120.
