This 1-of-100 Jordan Spiz’ike Low Celebrates The 35th Anniversary Of Do The Right Thing

Film buffs will argue that the 1989 film Do The Right Thing is Spike Lee’s greatest work ever. Inspired by the Howard Beach incident in 1986, Spike sought to raise awareness on urgent social and political issues through the lens of film. It often gets brought up when incidents touched on in the film occur in real life; for that, it may one one of the most important films ever.

A brooklyn native like the GOAT and a sneaker aficionado himself (as very evident throughout his work), Spike Lee eventually connected with Michael Jordan and the advertising shot-callers at Nike to produce some of the most unforgettable Jordan ads ever. Eventually, this led to the creation of his own shoe in 2006 called the Spiz’ike; the shoes were a fusion of the Air Jordan 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 20, with the name itself combining Spike and Mike into one. The debut colorway of white, red, and green was limited to just 4,032 pairs.

For the 35th Anniversary of Do The Right Thing, Spike Lee and his son Jackson created a highly-limited iteration on the modern-day Spiz’ike Low. Featuring the familiar white/red/green colorway, this version sees a “DTRT 35” flap on the upper netting, individual numbering on the interior lining, and a custom shoe-box mimicking Sal’s pizzeria in the film. It’s unclear if and how these 100 pairs will be released, but given its hyper limited nature, it’s possible that these are a friends and family issue that won’t see public offering. However, Spike is hosting a pop-up shop on June 29th on 69 Lafayette in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood (see the flyer below for details), as well as a block party on June 30th in Bed-Stuy.
