If he hadn’t already, Tyrese Maxey has officially arrived. As he and his 76ers gear up for another season where they enter as championship hopefuls, New Balance is ensuring he’ll have their latest & greatest on feet for that pursuit. The All-Star PG just featured in the public unveiling of the New Balance Hesi Low v2, and will continue to serve as the face of the model as the season gets underway.
Save for choice editions of the New Balance Kawhi series, the original Hesi Low offered up the only low-cut basketball model in the Boston arsenal. It’s a height that dovetails well into support for the “quickest players in the game,” making Maxey’s pop-off-the-screen, high-tempo playstyle a perfect match. As teased in our original first look, FuelCell cushioning makes another appearance here, a full-length dose of it cropping up in the midsole. Consistent with its predecessor, engineered knit is the choice for the upper, bringing a mix of breathability and lightweight feel that aligns well with this low-cut construction.
Aesthetically, the jagged line-work of the midsole foxing and the futuristic TPU heel counter make for a sleek overall profile, enhanced by a ribbed eyestay toward the collar and a leather pull tab at the very rear. The two public launch colorways, both titled “Wheel And Deal,” emphasize that atmosphere; black & red offers an ever-reliable nocturnal colorway while the “Pixel Green” & “Neo Flame” edition imbues a ton of flashy overtones. Importantly, Tyrese Maxey himself sports a “Grey Days”-like colorway in these official campaign images, but public release details remain unclear for that specific pair.
Though Kawhi Leonard remains the only New Balance hooper with a signature shoe, Maxey’s position as the “face of the Hesi Low v2” continues NBB’s strategy of assigning their basketball shoes as faux-signatures. Jamal Murray holds claim to the Two Wxy, Zach Lavine the Fresh Foam BB and now the 76ers stars earns the Hesi Low v2.
The Hesi Low v2 launches on August 2nd in these two “Wheel N Deal” colorways, each retailing for $110. Expectedly, more colorways will land throughout the course of the upcoming NBA season.
