Updated August 8th, 2024: New details surrounding the Air Jordan 1 Low “Black Cat Halloween”. The shoes still boast glow-in-the-dark aspects on the outsole and the upper, but the eyes on the tongue seem to light up at the push of a button. A video shared by @masterchefian reveals this new detail (see below). Currently, a product SKU still eludes us, so stay tuned for updates.

While it isn’t typically their foremost holiday, Jordan Brand and Nike Inc. don’t shy away from spooky season. The Air Jordan 1 Low is the choice for 2024 evidently; first looks just landed of the Air Jordan 1 Low “Black Cat,” expected to be one of their chief offerings for the Halloween festivities for kids.
Blacked-out takes on the Jordan 4 & Jordan 3 have kept the “Black Cat” alter ego alive, but this shoe exemplifies the animated fashion in which it’s been adapted lately. Here, there’s a slew of unconventional touches, starting with the glow-in-the-dark cat eyes on each tongue. From there, the toe-box adapts a textured pattern of spider-webs to that of the Black Spider Man Dunks, while the feline’s fur is achieved with the laces and the shaggy suedes on the upper.
To close out, embossed fangs creep out from the tongue and flame graphics flare out on the lower half overlays. As a whole, this is surely one of the more radical colorways in the Jordan catalog we’ve seen of late, giving the adult crowd an opportunity to get in on the expressive storytelling that typically only graces releases for kids.
An official release date is not yet known, but an October launch is most likely near the Halloween holiday. We will update our Jordan Release Dates page as additional info emerges.
What Is the Importance Of The Black Cat?
The importance of “Black Cat” in the world of sneakers is due to sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield, who was responsible for the what many call the greatest era of Air Jordans (1988 through 1999). For the 13th model, Hatfield imagined Michael Jordan as a black cat prowling through the jungle. Little did he know that “Black Cat” was a nickname that Michael Jordan already had before he even played college basketball. The Air Jordan 13 design is largely influenced by the paws of a black panther.
In 2006, Jordan Brand released its first-ever all-black Air Jordan 4. It was immediately nicknamed the “Black Cat” Jordan 4 and is among the most cherished Air Jordans in history.
In 2016, Jordan Brand released its first and only all-black Air Jordan 13 dubbed the “Black Cat” Jordan 13.
The Black Cat is also traditionally associated with Halloween. Connecting these two dots makes perfect sense, and this upcoming holiday, Jordan Brand will release its first-ever “Black Cat” Jordans for Halloween.
