The “Vanta Black” Is The Darkest Air Force 1 Nike Ever Created

Inventing a new color isn’t something that comes about every day. You probably remember headlines regarding “Vantablack” around a decade ago, a proprietary material said to reflect the darkest color possible to the human eye, absorbing over 99% of visible light. Applications of the tech have varied in the years since that development, but one of the more surprising came during the Holiday 2024 SNKRS preview, tackling the concept within the bounds of the Nike Air Force 1. As we draw closer to Q4, we’re getting our best look at the shoe yet.

Almost assuredly, this pair doesn’t actually utilize the same carbon nanotubes that Vantablack proper does, but the idea is clear all the same. Glossy textile is instead the choice for this pair, draping the upper from heel to toe. With the sockliner and laces remaining in their typical fabric, there’s a nice bit of textural contrast across that topmost section, a nice middle ground between dressed-up and street-ready. Regardless of the finer details, novelty & appeal with this release is readily apparent; Nike taking the cultural reaction to “all black forces” and doubling down on it in techy, stylistic fashion.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low Premium “Vanta” arrives this Holiday season. While similar releases hover around $135, don’t be surprised if these carry an additional price premium. Keep an eye on our Sneaker Release Dates page for further updates.
