Winter is coming, and New Balance has been hard at work outfitting its two most popular tech-runners for cold weather. With Cordura-clad takes on the New Balance 2002R and 1906R already on the docket, the former model now calls in GORE-TEX materials on yet another winter-appropriate offering.
Key utilitarian upgrades include a synthetic GORE-TEX toe cap and textured nylon base, sheltering the foot from snow and sleet and the like. A dark purple “Inkwell” hue dots the New Balance logo and underlays, while the rest of the upper fulfills a dusk-like mix in black and grey (save for a metallic silver heel accent). That same purple hue graces the ABZORB heel cushioning, accompanied by slivers of cream atop a white midsole.
Given the premium materials at play, the New Balance 2002R “Inkwell” retails for $180 ($35 more than your standard colorway). Overseas retailers are listing the shoes on a rolling basis, but no newbalance.com date has been floated at the time of this writing.
