adidas Will Only Use Recycled Plastic In Products By 2024

adidas is making a tremendous committed to environmental sustainability in 2018 and beyond. In a remarkable announcement, The German footwear and apparel juggernaut stated on Monday that they plan to use only recycled plastics in all their products by 2024. As the global use of plastic in consumer products continues to grow (it’s increased 20 fold over the past 50 years) the negative environmental impact is becoming more and more noticable.

The brand has already made a significant push towards a more enviroment-friendly product with their extensive range of Parley products-shoes that utilize recycled ocean plastics—like the Ultra Boost and the NMD R1. They’re expecting sales of the special footwear to continue too, as they’ve forecasted sales of 5 million pairs in 2018, as opposed to the 1 million sold in 2017. The Three Stripes also has announced that their apparel lines for 2019 will contain about 41% recycled polyester and that they will stop using “virgin” plastics in their offices, retail stores, warehouses, and distribution centers, a move that’s estimated to save a whopping 40 tons of plastic per year.

It’s certainly an ambitious plan, but one that could have wide-reaching positive effects, both on the industry and the enviroment.
