Nobody knows food-themed collaborations quite like Saucony, so New Orleans’ Politics and Cafe du Monde have teamed up with the Massachusetts-based footwear brand for a Shadow 5000 inspired by a famous NOLA delicacy: beignets. Cafe du Monde has been pumping out the delectable deep-fried French pastries since the 1860’s, and they’ve become a staple treat for city natives and tourists alike, so the collaborative shoes aim for a sweet air with their three-tone brown suede, leather, and mesh upper, equipped with flecked white detailing for a clever nod to the dashes of powdered sugar that tops each dessert. A white mesh tongue and midsole offer contrast, while the co-branded tongue tags and retro outsoles are both dressed in a vibrant green that represents the colors of Du Monde’s patio overhang. The homage doesn’t stop there, as the brown, yellow, and white box has been designed to look like just the packaging of the Du Monde beignet mix, and even features baking instructions on the back. If you’ve got a sweet tooth for these sugary kicks, they’re set to release on June 22nd for $120 USD, both at Politics’ New Orleans store and online via SneakerPolitics.com at 11am EST, so check out a full set of appetizing images below while you wait.
