July’s special in-line Nike Air Max 1 releases are all about the process behind the product, and one of the pairs that’s nodding to Tinker Hatfield‘s train of thought when designing the now-iconic silhouette is the “Tinker Schematic” in black. Dressed almost entirely in a stark black nubuck, the shoe’s upper then features a veritable cornucopia of white detailing, ranging from hand-scrawled design notes on each individual piece and panel to pinstripe-style piping on the collar. Although the inspiration behind these Nike shoes is immediately interpretable, the most direct call-out to Tinker’s work arrives on the heel of the right shoe, where the standard Nike Air branding is swapped out for the designer’s signature and a 9/23/86 mark, a possible nod to the date the final sketch was created ahead of its original retail release in 1987. The look is then completed by a black midsole with more white markings and an icy blue translucent outsole. These work-in-progress Maxes have not yet received an official release date, but as the Air Max 1 Sketch To Shelf pack is set to debut on July 13th, it’s not unreasonable to think they’ll follow on Nike.com shortly thereafter. Check out a full set of official images directly below in the meantime, and keep it locked for more info as it’s available.
