Nike, while engrossed in all things sports, arguably has basketball much closer to its heart as signature silhouettes and new performance forms arrive en masse all throughout the year. And relatively fresh off their All-Star Weekend celebrations, the brand is celebrating two equally important West Coast and East Coast tournaments: the Drew League and NY vs NY.
Though both are commemorated atop the same silhouette — the Air Force 1 — they opt for distinct approaches in terms of their design. The first, though not overt in its nods to California, takes a relatively unadorned white base and applies elegant “DREW LEAGUE” embroidery right along its back side. This text draws along the tongue tab as well as the insole, while everything else is kept true to the AF1’s Triple White template. In departure, the NY vs NY alternate is marginally more involved as the Swoosh, tread, and adjacent branding are all given a coat of dark black paint. “NY VS NY” stamps at the same place as its complement, while the tongue can be embellished with one of six total patches.
Grab a detailed look at both right here and expect them to release on July 23rd at Nike.com and Nike SNKRS.
