Following the announcement of its collaboration with Quasi Skateboards, the original action sports brand Vans has previewed a footwear collaboration and campaign with Kids Of Immigrants: “Work A Day In Our Shoes.”
Founded in 2016 and based in Los Angeles, KOI celebrates the working class, the immigrant community and historically marginalized peoples. Inspired by founder Daniel Buezo’s father, who’s been a longtime construction worker, the canvas of choice for the California brands’ collaboration is the Lowland CC. Each shoe features an individually and personally modified off-white canvas upper; haphazard paint strokes make their way onto the pair too, as on Mr. Buezo’s workwear. Furthermore, all pairs are packaged with a brush and sandpaper, which allow additional customization of everything from the outsole to the laces. In addition to the co-branding on the shoes, boxes are stamped with a message from the LA collective: “We are all cut from different fabrics but together make a whole. This is for our family and for all Kids Of Immigrants.”
As part of this partnership, Vans has also committed $5,000 USD to A New Way Of Life, a non-profit organization assisting women with life after incarceration. KOI will further assist the group in building a community garden at its new LA home.
Pairs of KOI’s Lowland CC arrive on October 2nd for $100 USD exclusively at the retailers listed below, as well as Foot Locker Compton.
