The Sneaker News March Madness Sneaker Tournament created a considerable buzz since it first began a few weeks ago. Our loyal sneakerhead readers and even the AOL Backporch Fanhouse came through to vote for their favorite kicks and let their voices be heard, making a case for their personal favorites. Some seemed stuck between a rock and a hard place with the tough decision, like the current Pigeon vs. AF1 match-up that is shaping up to be the closest match-up of the entire tournament.
But how’s this for a campaign push? Jeff Staple, the man behind the Nike SB Dunk Pigeon – the SB Dunk our loyal readers voted as the best SB Dunk of all time – has been keeping a close eye and ear to the Sneaker News tournament and makes one helluva convincing argument as to why his Nike SB Dunk Pigeon should take the cake. Continue reading to find out the Jeff Staple’s Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Still Vote For The Pigeons, and don’t forget to cast your ballot! Your vote will count! (no Florida)
Jeff Staple’s Top 10 Reasons to Vote for the Pigeons!
10. History. No sneaker has ever been on the front page of a major NYC newspaper except for the Pigeon. Not before. Not since. Period.
9. Best resell value: Average $2000.00+ for the Pigeons vs regular MRSP for the AF1s.
8. Pigeons (if you can find a pair) last a lot longer than the white on white AF1s which get dirty in the first 10 mins of wearing.
7. Comfort. I know the AF1s look good…but c’mon, Nike SB Dunks are infinitely more comfortable. And if you think AF1s are more comfortable than Nike SBs, I suggest you try German Wooden Clogs…you might find them even more comfy!
6. Degree of difficulty. Look at who AF1 had to beat to get to the Final Four and who Pigeon had to overcome. Out-dueling De La’s, Heinekens, Futura x Unkle’s, 2 Supreme’s, SBTG and the Tiffany’s is no easy feat!
5. The AF1 has been out for over 25 years now and no one felt it was necessary to do a “Sneaker Tourney” in all that time. You could reason that the shoes in the Dunk Division were what spawned this entire phenomenon known as “sneaker culture”.
4. There’s bird poop INSIDE our shoe. No joke! Luck forever!
3. Scarcity: 150 Pigeons were made versus 150 bajillion AF1s.
2. If you’ve owned, traded, touched, or even SEEN the Pigeons in real life, you are a certified Sneaker Connoisseur. Louie, the crackhead on the corner has AF1s.
1. This is an NCAA inspired tournament. Shouldn’t the finals really be Air Jordan vs a shoe called THE DUNK?!?
