The Sneaker News readers have spoken; the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ is the greatest OG Air Jordan of all time. Beginning with sixteen grueling battles in the first round and a few near-upsets along the way, the Air Jordan XI ‘Concord’ had just one competitor left to defeat – the daunting Air Jordan III Black/Cement. The results were clearly much closer than anticipated; the Air Jordan XI ‘Concords’ are thought to have a ‘younger’ following, while those who might have voted for the Air Jordan III may have done so to represent the earlier years of Air Jordan and pay respects to the gamechanging beginnings of the line. In any case, the tallies came right down to the wire with the Concord XI emerging with a narrow 2% victory on its way to being named the readers choice as Champion of our March Madness OG Air Jordan Tournament.
The Air Jordan XI was designed by Tinker Hatfield, and inspired by a lawnmower, of all things. The use of patent leather added a touch of luxury to the performance shoe, a certain ‘swag’ that Michael so effortlessly conveyed during his career. Michael debuted the Concord colorway of the Air Jordan XI in 1995 during the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals match-up against the Orlando Magic. The shoe was given to Michael as a wear-test sample, but he could not resist wearing them during the game and did so even with warnings from NBA officials and firm requests by Tinker Hatfield. The Concord XI was a message to the world: Michael is back, and so is the Air Jordan. Undoubtedly a top-tier OG Air Jordan colorway, its newfound championship title in the Sneaker News March Madness OG Air Jordan Tournament is one that is well deserved. Thanks to all who participated in our tournament voting, and with expected Retro releases of both of our finalists coming later this year, there are truly no losers here!
