While we are all awaiting the official media debut of the Nike Mag 2011 tonight, Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer in Lower Manhattan featured a special showcase of the shoe as well as a Delorean, fully decked out in time-travel technology with a hoverboard sitting on the passenger side. The Nike Mag 2011 was up for display beside the car as well as inside the Nike Sportswear retail store, available for public viewing. As the mystery box was opened at approximately 5:30, pedestrians walking the street as well as the handful of eager fans who waited on line at the store were treated with a nostalgic visual surprise, as the Delorean, with doors flung open, blinked with neon lights and switches while the famous Back To The Future theme music flowed from the Delorean’s sound system.
Those who waited outside the store and in front of the well-kept secret box crate were treated to a limited edition Nike Mag 2011 figurine, packaged in a yellow box with ‘Magnetic Anti Gravity’ alert label planted on the face of the box. As we reported earlier, the Nike Mag 2011 will be up for sale exclusively on eBay, with 150 pairs being sold per day for ten days. All proceeds will go to Michael J. Fox’s charity to fund Parkinson’s Disease research and awareness. Fox, who is currently in New York for a taping of The Late Show with David Letterman, will further detail the special Nike Mag 2011 project and eBay auctions during tonight’s episode. The auctions will go live at 11:30 PM EST/8:30 PM PST at www.nikemag.ebay.com so don’t forget to begin your attack for the most historic sneaker bidding war of all time.
