The original name for flecked woven Scottish fabrics was intended to be ‘tweel’, but a London merchant who misread the promo materials (a handwritten letter), started selling the stuff as ‘tweed’ after a nearby river. There’s no such confusion as to who is the world’s leading supplier, though, as The Harris Tweed Authority has stamped their signature orb on some of the world’s finest loomwork since 1911. They’ve been doing quite a few sneaker collaborations on this side of that century of service, including teamups with brands like Nike Sportswear, Converse, A Bathing Ape, and now a brand who’s done plenty of their own woolen designs in recent years. The Beauty & Youth x Vans ‘Harris Tweed’ Pack features one pair each of the Authentic and Slip-On lowtops, each offering its own take on asymmetrical placement of the signature herringbones and houndstooths. These are expected in stores later this month, so be sure to check back with Sneaker News after you’ve had a chance to see them in detail below.
