Nike is bringing back the classic Air Max Uptempo in a number of new colorways, but there’s nothing like an original. Here we see an all black variety that helps us remember what a great year 1996 was for Nike basketball models. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls were absolutely demolishing opponents en route to a historic 72-10 record. If you couldn’t get your hands on a pair of the Air Jordan 11s, then you were probably focusing on the Nike Air Max Uptempo at the time. The silhouette championed the first full-length visible air unit, something that Nike still utilizes in its signature models today. With a bold design that utilized numerous wavy panels on a tumbled leather, a vintage, chunky Swoosh was stitched on the side while the lace eyelets spelled out ‘Air’ in an ode to the performance technology on the shoe’s outsole. This Nike retro is already available at overseas House of Hoops locations and we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we find this pair stateside.
