Kobe Bryant‘s career is coming to a close and he’s entering the final phase of his playing days as a modern day icon. Nike Basketball knows this all too well which is why they’ll continue their Kobe series in the form of a number of off-the-court lifestyle viable silhouettes inspired by the Black Mamba’s glory days. The Nike Zoom Kobe Icon is an interesting silhouette in that the upper shroud complete with a zip-up construction is something you’d find straight from Gary Payton’s The Glove signature or the Air Jordan XX8. It goes directly against Kobe’s affection for low-top silhouettes (although the more recent Flyknit renditions did come in an ankle friendly high variety) as a mesh upper hides underlying laces and rests on a base that appears to be the same as the Kobe 6. Yeezy-like hieroglyphics hit the inner tongue branding for a unique twist – although we’re still uncertain of the origin or whether this will be featured in some sort of campaign later on. Check out more photos below and pick up the Nike Kobe Icon starting January 25th for a rumored $170 USD.
