New Balance’s retro running models have been holding down the streetwear scene for decades thanks to the simple archival designs’ ability to carry bolstered suedes, lush leathers, and collaborate with the best boutiques in the world. Now the Bostonian running specialists are introducing a new silhouette based on their most popular numbered models for the modern city-dweller known as the New Balance 247. It’s a shoe that you can wear for all occasions as the first Taupe and Teal “Friends and Family” colorway proves the minimalist design will have some staying power in the months ahead.
The New Balance 247 “Friends and Family” strikes the perfect balance of sleek and subtle thanks to a grey full-grain, a heavily ventilated nubuck toecap inspired by the New Balance 576, and the perfected REVlite midsole from the New Balance 998 for a comfortable, lightweight ride. There are hints of the New Balance 1300JP too on the forefoot pattern, but the beautiful thing about this upcoming silhouette is that you won’t have to be an NB expert to enjoy lacing up a pair. We’ve seen similar aesthetics on some of New Balance’s deconstructed retro offerings, but here, the combination of a number of archival inspirations breathes new life into a model perfect for everyday wear. Embossed ‘N’ branding skips out on the traditional touches of 3M while premium ‘247’ tongue tags accompany the fresh slip-on construction.
