Nike Is Releasing Its First DIY Flyknit Shoe

Nike Is Releasing Its First DIY Flyknit Shoe

Nike Gakou Flyknit Custom At Home Pack 01

Nike’s no stranger to showcasing early prototypes and samples. Take the Nike Air Max Zero, for instance, a model that Tinker Hatfield designed over thirty years ago that served as the blueprint for the first silhouette to ever feature visible air in the Air Max 1. Nike finally brought back the prototype three decades later to pay tribute to Tinker’s design process. Earlier this year, the NikeLab Zoom Fly SP paid tribute to the prototype process of the Breaking2 initiative with an awesome colorway telling the story of how the Vaporfly 4% was created.

Today we get a look at Nike’s latest creation, the Nike Gakou Flyknit, featuring a sock-like Flyknit upper with premium suede on the heel. It reminds us of the Nike Aqua Sock and the Sock Racer, just without the lockdown straps for a new lifestyle feel. Nike is giving you the ability to customize the first release with stencils of Swoosh branding and ‘Nike’ lettering inspired by the indecision of where to put their stamp of approval throughout the design process. This marks the first time that Nike has provided stencils for at-home customizing. You can grab your pair in both white and black Flyknit options on August 24th from select spots and on Nike+ and Nike.com.
