This past Friday, Social Status and Jordan Brand kicked off Art Basel with an exclusive release of the Air Jordan 1 “Basel Vice” Pack, a duet of Art Deco-inspired color themes gently laid onto the “Black Toe” Air Jordan 1. The official location of the pop-up was revealed the day prior, which caused a public response so massive that the venue, the The Mondrian South Beach hotel, forced the shop and brand to cancel the drop. With hours to go, Social Status and Jordan Brand worked tirelessly to bring the pop-up experience back to life, and they did so in the most Miami way – by releasing the shoes on a 120-foot yacht.
Social Status also had a special edition hoodie made for the event featuring the hotel’s address of 1100 West Ave. printed on the back. To reflect the new release location, Social Status blocked out the address and sold them to the public – a clever way to turn an obstacle into an advantage. Kudos to Social Status and Jordan Brand for this buzzer-beater of a sneaker release.
