Nike Has Plans Of Bringing Back The Original Tailwind Running Shoe

Nike Has Plans Of Bringing Back The Original Tailwind Running Shoe

After being brought back into the spotlight to some extent via a wild UNDERCOVER collaboration, the OG Nike Tailwind runner is set to return to market in its original form after an extended period of dormancy. The first-ever shoe to feature an Air-Sole unit, the Tailwind originally released exclusively in Hawaii late 1978 before fully rolling out to market in 1979. Although it’s arguably not quite at the cultural level of other classic ’70s’/’80s releases like the Nike Cortez or the Air Force 1, the Tailwind is still an extremely important benchmark in Nike’s design history due to its technological advancements — revolutionary for their time — and now it’s set to enjoy a revival this fall. Releasing in an OG combo of Vast Grey and Photo Blue, the Tailwind calls upon the former for its mesh upper and suede heel/toe pieces, while the latter provides bright pops of color on the large midfoot swoosh and top heel collar. A vintage cut foam tongue and thin laces provide more classic contrast, and the shoe is completed with a clean white midsole and black waffle outsole. For a fun extra touch, these Tailwinds also come packaged with matching white and blue quarter socks. You can look for these lovingly remastered classics to arrive on Nike.com October 17th — and also check out a full set of official images below while you wait.
