Nike Will Not Release Any Sneakers For Air Max Day 2019

Nike Will Not Release Any Sneakers For Air Max Day 2019

Update 3/19/19: Nike has univeled the specifics of the Give Fresh Air initiative.

Update 3/12/19: Alongside the “Give Fresh Air” initiative, a shoe will still be releasing on Air Max Day: the Air Max 180 BLN is slated to drop exclusively in Berlin, Germany.

Since 2014, Nike has celebrated Air Max Day on March 26th — the day that the OG Air Max 1 first debuted in 1987 — with special drops, unique events, and plenty of history lessons, but 2019’s festivities will be a little different: no new shoes will be releasing. Previous years saw the revival of everything from the atmos Air Max 1 “Elephant” to new releases like the very first Vapormax colorway in 2017 and Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 97/1 in 2018, but this year Nike is instead opting to focus on their new “Give Fresh Air” initiative in support of local community-focused organizations. The Swoosh Brand’s official statement is as follows:

“With the launch of the Air Max 1 in 1987, a revolution began. In the years since, Nike and “Air” have become synonymous while expanding its loyal following.

Although March 26, 1987, marks the beginning of the epic Air Max journey, this Air Max Day launches a new chapter focused on taking action. We know that change happens when people come together. Give Fresh Air is a rally cry to unify sneaker culture around a shared passion to ignite change. Nike and our partners will create ways to give “Air” to support local organizations and champion the power of community.

Since its inception in 2014, Nike’s Air Max Day has served as a celebration of all things Air — but unlike years past, 2019’s iteration of Air Max Day will not include any new releases.”

Shoes that were slated to release on the 26th will now likely be dispersed across the impending spring months — so be sure to check our Sneaker Release Dates page to see when you’ll be able to secure your preferred upcoming Air Max drops.
