After shredding his knee in last year’s NBA Finals and watching his Warriors fall to Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors, Klay Thompson is aiming to come back with a vengeance midway through the 2019-20 campaign, and whenever he does he’ll be doing it in style thanks to his brand-new ANTA KT5. First premiered in Shanghai during Thompson’s standard summertime trip to China, the KT5 will debut in a curiously-named “Klaytheism” colorway this October. It marks a bold new chapter for the partnership between brand and baller as well: it’ll be the first KT silhouette to see a widespread US release, as other models like the ANTA KT4 “East Bay Times” only released in the Western Hemisphere via sporadic pop-ups.
Cutting a striking figure due to its shroud-equipped high-top construction, the KT 5 was specifically designed to meet Klay’s needs as he recovers from injury, offering extra support without adding weight due to a flexible knit mesh upper. The lace shroud offers lockdown to go with its looks, while an A-FLASH midsole provides responsive cushioning. Dressed in black with red and blue accents, it’s both futuristic and familiar at the same time, and it’s littered with special details as well — the most noticeable of which arrive on the midsole thanks to bold statements like “Designed For The Best Shooter In The Game” and reminders like “Get Hot Stay Hot.” As mentioned above, they’ll debut in October with a retail price set at an extremely palatable $120 USD. Check out a detailed set of images below, stay tuned for info on a specific date of arrival, and be sure to tune in to the Bay this season to see if Steph Curry can hold down the fort while his fellow Splash Brother recovers.
