New Balance made headlines all throughout 2019 thanks to everything from the 990v5 launching to Kawhi Leonard winning an NBA Title with the Toronto Raptors. Although other footwear efforts out of the Boston-based brand didn’t get as much coverage, they are equally rooted in a commitment towards high-quality and heritage. The 997S model – a modern update of the classic 997 – perhaps best displays New Balance’s core mission, as it acquired premium collaborative releases with Bodega, as well as just as impressive mainline iterations in materials such as saffiano leather in the past 365 days. Adding another tally to its scoreboard of compelling color schemes, the 997S will soon arrive in an oddly sensical brown and teal combination that has us itching to get back to the warmer months. The sportier model dons an upper primarily made of mesh with suede overlays covering its mudguard, mid-foot panel and heel; while the mesh is decorated in faint teal, dark blue, and rich brown, the overlays don brighter shades of the aforementioned colors. Coral accents can also be found at the base of the tongue and on the ABZORB branding found on the off-white ENCAP midsole. If you want to add New Balance’s more modern sneaker take to your collection, you can grab these right now over at Sneaker Politics for $110 USD.
