We’re currently in the midst of a special year for the adidas Originals category as one of their most popular creations, the Superstar, is being highlighted and celebrated for five decades of existence. Since the beginning of 2020, the shell-toed icon has undergone many different outfit changes from heart-shaped decorations for Valentine’s Day to re-structured formations by the hands of Craig Green, and more, but one trend that has come to our attention just last week is its recent affinity for hybridizing itself with other Three Stripes models. After linking up with Stanley Roger Smith for a polymerized Superstan silhouette, its now calling upon a retro sibling in the Rivalry Low to lend a helping hand in styling its latest offering. The structural shape and features of the birthday model is left untouched, leaving most of the 1980s DNA to be channeled through its OG “Knicks” palette. The Madison Square Garden team colors of blue and orange that usually find their way affixed upon the midsoles, stripes, heels, and sock liners are translated identically, and blended with subtle modifications in text branding as the heels now spell out the base’s moniker, followed by the tongues which now state “Rivalry vs. Superstar” for a more literal nod. The shoes are currently loaded onto adidas.com overseas, but stay tuned as a release date has yet to be confirmed. In addition, be sure keep an eye out for more hybrid installments to spring up in the coming weeks.
