Combining their bold spirit with cutting edge design, Nike set the NYC runway on fire with a full-fledged showcase of Tokyo Olympics gear, Nike Sportswear apparel for FW2020, and six collaborations with creative partners including sacai, Off-White, Matthew Williams, Yoon of Ambush, and Undercover. All six include a unique sneaker silhouette as well as a matching set of apparel, each displaying a distinct direction that weld the latest innovations and materials with brand heritage and the input of Nike’s internal design team.
Starting things off, Virgil Abloh created a skate/running inspired silhouette with a Dunk outsole and a visible Air unit. While the Olympic Games are about the athletes, Virgil focused on spectators and added a fully functional powered fan to a lightweight jacket to keep the body cooled. sacai followed up on her outstanding LDWaffle with the Vapor Waffle, which features the tapered heel of the Vaporfly running shoe and the footwear run by running legend Joan Benoit Samuelson at the ’84 Olympics.
Yoon brought a firm feminine flavor to her moto-cross inspired outfit, implemented exaggerated dimensions to the Dunk High with extended Swoosh tails that double as tailpipes. Matthew Williams presented the most avant-garde of them all, with forefoot Zoom inserted inside a massive frame platform below a mesh-based shell. Finally, Jun Takahashi inserted an array of materials to his latest running offering which features transparent uppers, webbing, and asymmetrical lacing. Takahaski also created a top and bottom specifically for the Japanese national basketball team.
Detailed looks, release info, and further information are soon to come, so check out these first looks from the Nike Forum 2020 runway show and stay tuned.
