Recently announced as having had seven out of The Top 10 Best-Selling Sneakers of 2019 (U.S.), Nike Inc. dominated February’s first week of headlines. Jordan Brand surprised sneaker fans everywhere as its history-making Air Jordan 1 collaboration with J Balvin was unveiled during Super Bowl LIV. While the full-extent of the partnership is still unknown, the Colombian-born, global pop-star joins an impressive cast of collaborators, which had five of its members unveil capsules at the Nike Forum 2020 slated to drop throughout the Tokyo Olympics. Spanning footwear and apparel, collections from sacai, OFF-WHITE, Matthew M Williams, AMBUSH, and UNDERCOVER primarily build upon products already in Nike’s arsenal, but also include new models like the Rubber Dunk and Zoom MMW 4 from two of Kanye West’s previous colleagues. Though not pictured alongside Drake, Tom Sachs, and Travis Scott in the group-photo taken at NYC-held showcase currently circulating social media, Jerry Lorenzo is scheduled to add a triple-black version to his Air Fear Of God 1 roster on Valentine’s Day. The news came as a pleasant surprise given that the model’s “String” – or “Cream Toes” – colorways was supposed to end the months-old Nike x FOG dry-spell at the end of February. Over on the Three Stripes side of things, adidas Yeezy maintained relatively quiet with (arguably) most ‘Ye-related chatter pertaining to his remarks on jacuzzis to Architectural Digest. adidas Originals, however, revealed an appetizer to its forthcoming collaboration with Run D.M.C. via two laceless pairs of the Superstar, which turns 50 this year. Furthermore, the German-brand remixed its Ultra BOOST‘s original black and purple colorway to commemorate the marquee runner’s 5th Anniversary. And on the topic of five year milestones, the elusive New Balance 1300JP is returning later this month, sticking to its every-five-years release cycle started in 1985. For all that and much more, check out our top seventeen headlines from February 1st to February 7th here ahead.
