For its 50th Anniversary, the adidas Superstar has already emerged in both classic and modern iterations. And while proposals like the Superstan and the pending Prada Superstar are recognizable reimaginations of the shell-toe, an upcoming set of deconstructed Superstars tread between the familiar and unfamiliar.
Spawned out of an internal adidas design workshop, the Superstar’s latest looks revel in a “do-it-yourself” aesthetic. Similar to the recent Y-3 Yohji Star, both pairs are clad in “Cloud White/Core Black/Off White” and feature visual bulk at the lace guards and heel. This modern reinterpretation, however, is laden with exposed zig-zag stitching and rough-edged overlays. Rubber toe-caps and midsoles are intact, but 3-Stripes branding on both pairs forgo their 50-year-old-style. Instead, one pair’s profile branding is serrated, while the other Superstar’s iconic stripes are partially hidden under an off-white leather layer.
Grab a closer look at these two recognizable, yet new takes on the timeless silhouette here below while you wait for pairs to drop on adidas.com in the coming weeks.
Elsewhere under the Three Stripes umbrella, adidas and Disney continue their partnership with an upcoming Ultra Boost covered in Goofy graphics.
