Nike generally prefers to task ISPA and N.354 with the experimental, but if the brand’s most recent releases are any indication, they’re slowly started to push the envelope via their own mainline offerings. And the brand’s latest concept — dubbed the “Zoom Double Stacked” — is something of a blend between their running efforts and their collaborative works with sacai as it bridges style and function with not one but two layers of Zoom Air.
Aggressive in its overall appearance, the model itself aims to mirror the aesthetics of high fashion within the frame of Nike patented comfort and technology. Zoom Air, which arrives exposed across the wedge-like sole, cushions the forefoot once and the heel twice over, the latter stacked as the pair’s namesake would imply. “Comfort informing style” is what the design philosophy aims to achieve, and as its visual imprint is objectively maximal, the colorway is appropriately on the same page. Hued entirely in “Barely Volt,” the upper threads with loud neon — even the overlaid accents, heel tab, and laces are given the same treatment. Logo hits, which blend in against their same-toned backdrop, are surprisingly few as a miniature check embroiders the lateral heel while an thin, unfinished TPU variant arcs across towards the toe.
