Whether he’s teasing another project with Coca-Cola or unveiling a new KITH location via social media, Ronnie Fieg has repeatedly proven that he’s never not working. For his next collaborative effort, the Queens-native has worked with longtime partner New Balance for a “Steel Blue” capsule consisting of the 1300 and R_C 1300.
Known internally as the CL colorway, the two-tone palette has appeared throughout Fieg’s collaborations with the Boston-based brand. A favorite of his since 1995, the shades of blue adorned his first two projects with New Balance in 2012, and pairs of the 990v2 and 998 from this past May. As a modern nod to the beloved colorway, Fieg has inverted the “Steel Blue” palette on the 1300: pigskin suede boasts the lighter shade while mesh panels and underlays indulge in the darker tone.
The relatively-novel R_C1300 its muse’s original upper, but updates its sole unit. Premium materials forgo any inversion in favor of donning what Fieg has touted as “the most important colorway in the NB archive” in its standard arrangement. ENCAP Reveal midsoles keep things simple in white, but their rugged, Vibram outsole sports a light pink finish. It, like the 1300’s classic ENCAP tooling, commemorates Fieg’s collaboration from eight years ago with a “Mauve Sole”. Both models feature co-branding on the tongue, asymmetrically branded heel tabs, and custom-printed sockliners.
This 1300CL Capsule launches tomorrow, August 24th, on Kith.com. An in-store release will take place at KITH’s Tokyo, Bergdorf Goodman, Selfridges, and Hirshleifers shops. In the meantime, enjoy a closer look at the pairs here below.
