As uncertainty continues to plague the New York Yankees ahead of the MLB’s 2022 season opener, The Bronx-based team has indirectly lent its iconic colors to the Nike Air Tuned Max.
Most associated with its original “Celery”-accented colorway, the first silhouette to don a full-length Tuned Air unit seemingly harkens back to the early aughts with its predominantly grey base. Akin to other performance-running models from the 2000s that’ve found a “second life” thanks to the “dad shoe” trend, the Air Tuned Max boasts reflective strips throughout its breathable and “busy” upper. TPU overlays across the mid-foot connect the silhouette to the Air Max Plus from 1998, while the curved panels at the forefoot and heel (clad in navy) speak to the experimentation at the core of the Nike Alpha Project. Underfoot, the evolved Air Max cushioning solution opts for a clear makeup that allows both the upper to revel in the spotlight and outsole to appear prominently.
