When they first opened in 2006, Sneaker Politics was a humble mom-and-pop outfitting the Lafayette area. In the years since, founder Derek Curry has established multiple locations throughout the South, expanding all the way to Texas. And soon, even further expansion is in store, though not by way of another storefront but a collaborative ASICS GEL-LYTE III, whose colorway pays homage to Curry’s military service.
Using both color and material, the collaboration likens Shigeyuki Mitsui’s beloved runner to a piece of olive field gear. While the suede overlays are quite civilian, the rest of the upper directly alludes to military issue, as the material of the canvas base is reminiscent of a fatigue jacket and pant. Tears across the toe simulate wear, all the while paying homage to the United States for which Curry fought. Additionally, removable, co-branded patches adorn both the lateral and medial side of the heel; cream accents dress the laces and multi-color sole; and the counter is embellished with Sneaker Politics’ signature “P” logo.
For a closer look at the Sneaker Politics x ASICS GEL-LYTE III, see below. Retailing for $150 USD, the shoe is slated to hit ASICS.com and select retailers (Sneaker Politics of course included) on May 30th.
Also late this month, the Hello Kitty Air Presto is making another appearance.
