Michael Le From sport to film, FILA has had a hand in some of the most culturally pivotal moments of the last half-century. And throughout 2022, the global sports brand has continued to align with iconic franchises, such as Sonic the Hedgehog. Their latest collaborative effort celebrates a cult classic film: Semi-Pro.
Joining forces with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, FILA is paying homage to the 2008 sports comedy Semi-Pro. Owner, coach, and player, protagonist Jackie Moon headed the fictional ABA team Flint Tropics, whose now-famous logo and signature colors are featured on a selection of FILA apparel as well as two iterations of the Grant Hill 2.
Prepared in both a black and white colorway, the Semi-Pro x FILA Grant Hill 2 imagines what it would look like if the Flint Tropics’ were to receive their own signature footwear. Emblazoned with the team’s logo, both pairs brim with pride thanks to the orange and teal detailing that appears throughout the shoes’ construction. What’s more, direct nods to the film’s name are present atop the strap, sockliner, and packaging.
In addition to the Grant Hill 2s, the Semi-Pro x FILA capsule will also offer up a selection of apparel, which includes a hoodie, tee, and shorts. The hoodie features Flint Tropics iconography alongside white and orange detailing on its ribbed trim; the tee highlights the film’s protagonist Jackie Moon, whose number and name appear on the chest and back, respectively; and, finally, the basketball shorts round out the uniform in the team’s signature colors.
