Sneaker News Penny Hardaway’s career may have been stunted and cut short due to injury, but his influence on the game of basketball and sneaker culture have only strengthened year after year.
The Air Penny footwear line from Nike remains as one of the most robust signature shoe series in the brand’s history, largely due to the impeccable design of Eric Avar. The Air Max Penny, the first signature shoe of the former Orlando Magic standout, is currently experiencing a renaissance affair thanks to OG bringbacks and collaborations with the likes of Social Status, but this upcoming GR release calls back to his affiliation with the Memphis Tigers.
After playing two seasons with Memphis, Penny was drafted third overall in the 1993 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors and immediately packaged in a trade to Orlando to team up with Shaquille O’neal. Now, he serves as the head coach of the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team, with his job secured via contract through 2028.
