At its core, Nike is a running company. Over the last several decades, the Oregon-based institution has dominated other sports, but it’s never lost sight of its origins.
Ahead of summer, the Swoosh has prepped the Nike Phoenix Waffle, a new silhouette based on old school design. The women’s sneaker bears semblance to models from both the Pegasus and Waffle line, while marking a new beginning for the brand’s heritage-inspired roster. Nylon bases are overlaid with suede panels that go from forefoot to heel. Reflect strips appear throughout the upper, injecting a bit of functionality and fashion to the Phoenix Waffle. Underfoot, the design features ample midsole cushioning, although there’s no sign of a special compound like Cushlon or React foam. Lastly, the traction revisits Nike’s earliest days with its waffle-patterned rubber solution.
Enjoy an early look at the pair ahead, while you wait for official nike.com launch details as the holiday season approaches.
