The Nike Air Humara is pretty deep into its comeback effort, a little over a year following their first appearance last February. Since that point, the minds at Beaverton have pushed the silhouette in several different directions, some entirely fresh formulations and some that rely on well-trod history. Leaning into the latter, the newest “Viotech” formulation dips into one of the most vaunted sides of the Oregon canon.
There’s some creative liberties taken in adapting the colorway, no doubt necessitated by the contrast in design principles between 2003’s Nike Air Max 1 and the model at hand. The most glaring is that the Humara adaptation brightens up the heavy neutrals of their predecessors, lending light beige a much bigger profile. However, despite the differences, this edition holds onto what makes that AM1 so iconic- the titular “Viotech” purple still sits central in the design, a gum sole still anchors underfoot and those earthy shades dominate the color palette, no matter how they’re modified.
While the Y2K craze has prompted Nike to bring back certain tech-style models from the archives, maybe this is a signal they’re willing to bring back some of the most iconic colorways from the era. Retros of Atmos x Nike collaborations aren’t without precedent (see the Air Max 1 “Safari” & “Elephant” from 2016 & 2017, respectively) so this Nike Air Humara will certain heat up discussions about a possible “Viotech” comeback.
The Nike Air Humara “Viotech” hasn’t been assigned a concrete release date, but expect their rollout to occur in the coming weeks. They’ll carry a $160 retail price when they materialize.
Elsewhere for the Swoosh, the Nike Air Max 1 “Royal Volt” stands as one of the biggest drops for tomorrow’s Air Max Day festivities.
