About a week ago, Triple H went on Complex Sneaker Shopping and said he thinks WWE superstars should get more attention from sneaker brands, calling out Roman Reigns in particular given the athlete’s well-documented favorability towards Air Jordan shoes. Well WWE just celebrated Wrestlemania XL and Jordan Brand answered the bell, acknowledging The Bloodline’s Tribal Chief with a special delivery featuring Jordan staples and an all-new wrestling shoe.
A video shared by Reigns prior to his Wrestlemania title defense showcases custom Jordan Stadium 90 and Air Jordan 3 “Ivory” designs, both adorned with The Bloodline’s emblem and “Air Reigns” text. The highlight, however, is a custom high-top wrestling boot, a totally new area for Jordan Brand. Sneakerheads who watched Wrestlemania most definitely spotted the iconic Jumpman logo on Reigns’ footwear.
The relationship between WWE and sneaker culture has been well-established for decades. John Cena famously flaunted Reebok Pumps during his “Word Life” phase in the early 2000s, and numerous superstars have since embraced Air Jordans, Yeezys, and other hyped-up footwear in their ring attire. Notably, Seth Rollins chose the Nike x Air Fear Of God 1 for his Wrestlemania match this year.
Jordan Brand’s willingness to put “Air Reigns” on the iconic wings logo opens speculation regarding a partnership in the near future, especially in light of Triple H’s recent remarks. For now, this move serves to strengthen the bond between sneaker and wrestling cultures and pave the way for future WWE sneaker initiatives. Sneakerheads and WWE fans are advised to stay tuned to our Sneaker Release Dates page for any news on a wider release of the sneakers given to Reigns.
Not that is has much to do with sneaker news, but Reigns lost the WWE Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania XL, putting an end to a whopping 1,316 day title reign. Members of The Bloodline, John Cena, The Rock, and The Undertaker intervened in the match.
