This is the simplest explanation why nearly every footwear brand relies on existing and established platforms to bring a once-forgotten model to market. Case in point: the Ronnie Fieg ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1 and the much more attainable ASICS GEL-Nimbus 10.1, a revival of 2008’s GEL-Nimbus 10 running shoe with the midsole cushioning of the ubiquitous GEL-Kayano 14.

Arriving soon in a mix of original 2008 colorways like the Directoire Blue and the Silver/Yellow, the GEL-Nimbus 10.1 captures the proper essence of its source material via the mesh and synthetic overlays and familiar warped grid graphic on the upper panel. Inspired by the natural structure of the foot and its skeletal frame, ASICS relies on the well-known GEL-Kayano 14 platform to support this 2024 iteration of the GEL-Nimbus 10, with “10.1” markings found on the tongue and heel. It’s worth noting that the original GEL-Nimbus 10 outsole is similar in terms of its GEL pod lay-out as it stretches from the fore-foot to the heel.
ASICS is set to roll out this updated retro model in early July for $160 a-piece in the aforementioned OG colorways and a batch of modern styles. There are actually quite a bit of OG colorways, so we’ll and see if they ever make a come-back. For now, see the five confirmed colorways just ahead and stay tuned for release updates.
