To the pleasure of Air Max enthusiasts, Nike’s latest Air 180 revival has centered primarily around original colorways and original tooling. Following the return of the “Ultramarine” colorway, the “Concord” Air 180 famously championed by Michael Jordan at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics is coming back for Fall 2024.
While “Concord” will forever be synonymous with the Air Jordan 11, the titular color (which pre-dates the AJ11) is associated with the grape-like hue that appears on the tongue, midsole wedge, collar, and outsole. Metallic gold Swoosh logos and heel branding make for a clear podium-worthy look, while the base opts for summit white suede and mesh so as to let Tinker Hatfield’s design speak for itself. Continuing to incorporate original Air units as seen on the aforementioned “Ultramarine” pair and recent big bubble Air Max 1s, Nike uses the very same circa 1991 midsole on this delivery.
Nike brought back the Air 180 “Concord” in 2013 via a limited quickstrike release, but on top of that pair’s “modern” Air unit, it also featured “Concord” heel branding. Quality images of Mike’s pair from 1992 are elusive, but all indications point towards a decidedly more accurate representation of that color blocking and tooling this time around.
No release date has been set at the time of this writing, but given the shoe’s obvious association with the Olympic Games (which begin later this month), that could change in the very near future.
