Towards the top of the year, Beaverton official brought back the Nike Air Pegasus 2K5, a move no doubt influenced by the meteoric success of similar retros like the Zoom Vomero 5. Plucked from the archives towards the top of the year, the mid 2000s execution hasn’t entirely fallen flat, but neither has it taken the world by storm. With aims to inject some fresh energy, a new reimagining of the model is emerging; the Nike Air Pegasus Wave brings a host of techy additions to the silhouette.
The cage at the quarter is entirely remodeled, now printed in pronounced TPU as it extends through the midsole and hangs over the eyestays. Towards the forefoot, the previous layered composition is shuffled around a bit, with the weaving overlays now sublimated below synthetic mesh while new patent leather infused sections take their place over top. Finally, the heel now carries an overall pronounced look; padded mesh pokes through curvilinear leather cut outs and the branding capsule juts out prominently from its center placement.
There are a few other minor tweaks, like a wider mesh towards the collar, but the above covers most of the foremost revisions that the Air Pegasus Wave capitalizes on. While Nike remodeling a retro runner in this way is relatively novel, the changes here are analogous to what they’ve done with the Air Max Plus Drift or Air Max 90 Drift, bringing simplistic, retro construction into the next century with a heavy emphasis on synthetic materials and reflective detailing.
While the Nike Pegasus Wave’s release window isn’t entirely clear, we do know it’ll retail for $150 upon arrival.
