Andrew Rizzo The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 is currently one of the trendiest shoes on the market, thriving amidst newfound consumer interest in Y2K aesthetics. Now striking while the iron’s hot, the Beaverton brand looks poised to release an all-new spinoff version of the runner-turned-lifestyle shoe. Taking aim at the “gorpcore” niche and modern rise of outdoor-minded footwear, the Vomero 5 Roam lands as a rugged re-imagination of the 2011 classic.
Almost everything about the Vomero 5 Roam differs from the standard model. For one, the sole is drastically re-tooled. The lower portion features the same cushioning pockets, but the unit itself is blown up in size for a more durable, trail-ready wear. Moving upwards, a TPU mudguard encompasses basically the entire lower half of the base, wrapping around the heel and even covering a sliver of the quarter Swoosh logos. The outsole also creeps upwards, with grippy black tread extending onto the toe so as provide even more protection. The top portion of the base consists of durable ripstop material, complete with pull laces in a sensible addition. Nike also brings pull tabs to the tongue and heel, further tailoring the runner for the outdoors. Key Vomero 5 hallmarks including the quarter cage and TPU heel counter are still on display, but altered to fit alongside all the ambitious features of the new version.
The Beaverton brand brings autumn-appropriate “Flax” and “Khaki” to the model’s debut colorway, with the two shades split between the top and lower halves, respectively. Underfoot, a speckled “Anthracite” outsole polishes off the look.
Given all the extra features at play, the Vomero 5 Roam commands a hefty $180 retail price. Nike hasn’t set a release date for this “Flax/Khaki/Anthracite” women’s pair, but indications points towards a Fall/Winter 2024 arrival. See official images below and stay tuned for further updates.
