Original article published November 19th, 2024: Sporty and Rich has emerged as one of adidas’ most reliable collaborators in the past year and change, their work with the Three Stripes coinciding with a major renaissance for the adidas Samba. To date, they’ve ushered in seven colorways of the staple shoe, nearly dwarfing their output outside of that silhouette. With the German giant positioning the adidas SL 72 as their next spotlighted lifestyle proposition, the partners’ latest collaboration offers the opportunity for Sporty and Rich to spread their wings further.
The three pack begins with a flip on “Utility Yellow,” an OG colorway and one that adidas tapped for the model’s return to the mainline towards the top of the year. While in broad strokes, the blue-on-yellow layout remains, that sunny shade is replaced with a paler counterpart on the textile body of the shoe. A silken interior also replaces typical leather. To close, co-branded details above the Three Stripes and on the tongue deliver the requisite collaborative atmosphere.
That formula remains for the yellow-on-blue edition, obviously an inversion of the same colorway. It leaves the edition in “Mint Rush” as the odd man out, but the same simplistic style succeeds on that edition, veering closer to mainline releases with off-white trim tacked onto its Charlotte Hornets-esque foremost color choices.
Neither adidas nor Sporty and Rich have announced release details for this SL 72 collaboration. However, expect information to trickle out soon – in lieu of it, we’re projecting these pairs to land in time for Holiday ’24.
