An alternating colorway and lofty inspirations.

LeBron Flexes His Exec Resume On The Nike LeBron 22 “Mogul”

What do Blaze Pizza, Liverpool FC and Beats By Dre all have in common? If you guessed LeBron James, you’re dead on — they’re just some of the wide-ranging investments that the King has made in the past decade, a set of holdings that helped boost him past the billion dollar mark in 2022. As his signature basketball shoes enterprise continues on in its 22nd edition, LeBron is nodding to his off-the-court ventures with the aptly titled Nike LeBron 22 “Mogul.”

The clear inspiration on display here is most culturally visible investment, HBO’s The Shop. Though the talk show has moved away from the checkerboard floors in recent seasons, it’s undeniable that said set is the most easily associated with the show, likely the impetus behind its appearance here. Indeed, though the geometric pattern isn’t reflected entirely faithfully, sticking to white on the leftmost sides of the shoe rather than strictly to the medial emphasizes the same repetitious atmosphere.

Golden trim throughout could mirror the same gilded furnishings from the set, but more generally connects to the “Mogul” theme present on this LeBron 22, representing the full breadth of the King’s portfolio rather than just one sector of it. Finally, perhaps the most eye-catching detail to us, LeBron’s “Crown” logo on the midsole shifts to a more abstract interpretation, evoking the work of Jean Michel Basquiat, of whom James just picked up a tattoo in 2023.

Look for the Nike LeBron 22 “Mogul” on Nike.com and partnering retail shelves on January 1st — a $180 MSRP is confirmed.
