Matt Varga The bigger brands are typically the foremost purveyors of the strategy, but parlaying a buzzy collaboration into a wider retro is the oldest trick in the book. Given that much of Saucony’s business is centered in the performance world, it isn’t one that we’ve seen from them all that often, but a spate of recent link-ups is now spurring the return of the original Saucony Matrix.
For the uninformed, not only Jae Tips‘ “No Shoes In The House” collection but also Color Plus’ Saucony Matrix have helped reintroduce the shoe as a modern option. In rolling out the red carpet for a mainline release, Saucony throws things back to the shoe’s last run on the shelves, uncorking a bumblebee colorway last dropped around the turn of the century (sported by Ben Stiller on the set of Zoolander, funnily enough.) Though Saucony makes a few minor tweaks, including pinning steel grey on the outsole lugs instead of translucent hues, the OG DNA still lives on, ready to provide another arm of the brand’s retro runner efforts.
Release info for the Saucony Matrix in yellow/black/grey is unclear at the time of writing. In the meantime, though, check out product shots embedded below.
