Up there in that conversation is the vaunted Nike Mag, its already notable film memorabilia value skyrocketed by the sheer rarity of the 2011 replicas. In crafting the 2016 pair, the Swoosh tacked on one ultimate layer, finally cracking the code on the film-accurate self-lacing technology that the 2011 edition lacked. This pinnacle version comfortably cleared $50,000 in its initial auctions, so there’s no telling how far its value will rise for the triple autographed version that Goldin just announced.
Sadly, you won’t find the signatures from Tinker Hatfield, Michael J. Fox, and Christopher Lloyd, the two stars of Back To The Future and the designer for both the Mag and its subsqeuent replicas, on the shoes themselves. Instead, within the fittingly supersized box, you’ll find a glass separator between the two shoes which bears the autographs.
Specifically noted by Goldin is the shoe’s extremely limited quality, the aspect outside of the “Power Lacing” / “E.A.R.L.” technology that makes this shoe such a hot commodity. Officially, only 89 pairs were made, released through an online raffle with select inventory distributed through the aforementioned initial raffles.
